1. Invest in Continuous Learning Opportunities
Talk with your team—what are they interested in learning? How can they complement each other with their skills? Keep your staff knowledgeable about your industry, and offer them workshops, online courses, or even tuition reimbursement for relevant educational pursuits. As staff enhance their capabilities, they will feel more engaged and positively contribute to the organization and their own future goals. Make sure they share what they’ve learned with each other to maximize impact.
2. Establish Mentorship and Coaching Programs
Match a young team member with someone who has experience in the workplace and is willing to give them valuable advice on how to accomplish their career goals. A mentor should be patient, possess excellent listening skills, and be able to give productive feedback. Encourage regular meetings between mentor and mentee. And provide resources for mentors to guide and support their mentees effectively.
3. Maintain Your Work-Life Balance
This tip may be unexpected, but necessary in a world where you can truly be contacted 24/7. Encourage your team to take much-needed vacation or sick time. If they are worried about what will happen when they are out, encourage them to give you a list of their projects. Ask them what they need help with and make sure their tasks are completed. If they are worried about someone taking over their projects permanently, remind them they are a valued member of the team, and they will be apprised of all that happened while they were out.
